Overall, Malphite sees a very large drop in his KDA (ratio of kills and assists to deaths) when paired with Shen. His KDA went down from NaN to NaN. This worsening shows that Shen helps Malphite perform not as well in ranked LoL matches. Yet, the small difference indicates that this performance change is not very impactful.
When Malphite is an ally to Shen, he gets a marginal improvement in his complete damage output. This change may indicate that Shen provides cover for him to dish out more damage or that his participation also helps extend the game's duration. Similarly, when Malphite is played with Shen on the same team, he usually scores many fewer killing sprees than when he plays on his own. This is contrasting evidence that he is worse when playing alongside Shen.

Is Malphite better when played alongside Shen?
There is no ideal companion for Malphite that will no matter what be his ideal synergy. Yet, overall, Shen is a terrible companion for Malphite. By being on the same side as Malphite, he decreases their win rate by -3.3% to 46.8%. This clearly indicates that there is a terrible bond between Malphite and Shen that allows them to perform not as well together than without each other.
Shen has a greater difficulty than Malphite. That means you should be careful when finding Shen teammates to play with, as they will require a greater level of skill to fight well with you.
When playing alongside, Malphite players should see an overall large increase in your team’s ability to to cover for your other teammates. Combined, these two will be able to tank for the rest of their team.
Although, by aligning Malphite and Shen together, you will not be giving your other teammates enough attack damage. We recommend you bring other champions on your team that offsets this relative gap in their capabilities.

The ideal finished items to have in your Malphite and Shen synergy build consist of Sunfire Aegis, Thornmail, and Frozen Heart. When Malphite used at least these three pieces in his build, he performed significantly better as an ally of Shen than with most other common builds. In fact, Malphite had an average winrate of 46.8% helping carry Shen with these items in his kit.
To have the highest likelihood of vanquishing your oponents, you should equip the Grasp of the Undying, Shield Bash, Conditioning, Overgrowth, Manaflow Band, and Transcendence runes from the Resolve and Sorcery rune sets.
